.:. Does absence make the heart grow fonder? .:.

So, it's been a little over 3 months since I posted on this here blog...yikes! There have been a few times throughout my blogging hiatus that I wanted to post but didn't follow through because I was either too busy, too exhausted or I was suffering from 'stage' fright. A lot has transpired in the last 3 months, including that Moof and I have moved house. Yes, we are now officially Suburbanites! We have moved every year since we shacked up in 2004, and we finally got sick of living in close proximity to the city with its high rent, lack of car parking and dog-kennel-sized apartments. Our new house is big and old and bright and spacious and best of all it actually has a garden! So to kick start my tentative return to blogland here are some pictures I took recently in our new garden, I hope you enjoy them!

Oh, and in case you are interested, I took all these photos with my new camera which Moof bought me for my birthday (back in September). It's a Samsung EX1 and it's super cool but I need to read the instructions because I have only utilised the automatic setting so far...lazy huh? Anyway, there you have it...Thanks for stopping by!

.:. Impromptu Laksa Review .:.

On Thursday last week, my good friend T-dog and I stayed back at work a little later than usual(blergh!). As Moof wasn't going to be home for dinner that night I suggested to T-dog that we grab dinner before retreating to our respective habitats. So we did what all good iPhone-toting tossers do these days and jumped on the 'Urbanspoon' app to find a suitable eating hole. We chose Malaysian as the flavour of the night which saw us schlepping our way down Elizabeth Street to 'Big Coconut House'. It turned out to be well worth the schlepping, because the food was yummo.
I'd describe the place as a Malaysian style diner of sorts. It's a bustling, order and pay at the counter, sticky tabled, friendly kinda joint. Here are a couple of dodgy phone photos of the Vegetarian Laksa I had which was accompanied by an Iced Lychee drink.

You may have noticed the sneaky fishcake slices in my 'Vegetarian' Laksa...I couldn't help myself, I'm a sucker for those rubbery, ocean scented strips of goodness!

Anyway, I digress, the Laksa was pretty tasty. I loved the oily, caramelised eggplant and the fresh baby spinach which balanced out the coconutty richness . The Iced Lychee drink was A-M-A-ZING, slightly sweet and complete with yummy canned Lychees and fresh, crunchy ice. It was so refreshing.

I didn't take any photos of T-dog's meal, mainly because he ordered some pork monstrosity (he liked it). Actually there was so much meat on the menu, pretty much the only vegetarian option was the Laksa.  T-dog ordered this weird coconut and Jam Toast with butter. It looked really odd but he said it rocked his world.

The reason I wanted to share this random culinary adventure is because it really made my week. Usually on a work night I'll drag myself home, hop into my pyjamas and collapse on the couch until Moof nudges me awake and I shuffle wearily off to bed. Then of course I'm up again the next day to repeat the same, tired routine. So, I've decided that I'm going to try and get out more during the week just to break out of the Monday to Friday monotony. I'll try and post about my weekday adventures, that way I will have something to remind me to mix up my boring routines from time to time! How about you? Do you get out on 'school nights'? What fun adventures have you had during the week?

Thanks for stopping by!

.:. Andy and Mearl .:.

So, I've been watching stuff on Vimeo for around 3 hours now. My eyes are starting to water a little but I can't seem to stop. Yes, it seems that Vimeo may be my 'crack'. In summation Vimeo is awesome, but crack is whack!(as in really bad, just say no!) So without further ado I present you with a sweet little video I found about a guy called Andy and his friend Mearl the Squirrel. I personally think squirrels are super cute and I wish we had them here in Australia (despite the fact that they are considered a pest in a few countries...) Hope you enjoy it and oh oh, if you've seen something noteworthy on Vimeo let me know, I'd love to watch it!

.:. The Moof Cooks .:.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before but my lovely boyfriend 'Moof' is a chef by trade. I don't actually love cooking myself, I'm more of a baker, so I'm super lucky to have Moof around to slave over a hot stove pretty much every night. He always makes such delicious and simple meals so I thought I'd share a few with you. A warning to any lovely vegetarians and vegans out there: although we are not big meat eaters, and we are definitely friends of señor tofu, the pictures in this post include fish, red meat and poultry so look away now if you are likely to be offended!! Oh, and for those allergic, this post may contain traces of nuts...

.:. Megan's Mix .:.

I received a Mix CD from the first of my 2 partners in Bianca's Mix Share Swap. The lovely lass who sent me the mix pictured below is Megan from West Virginia, USA. I was super jazzed to find Megan's package waiting for me when I got home from work the other week, I may have squealed a little as I tore it open. Check it...

There are heaps of great tracks on the mix but my favourite by far is a cover of Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' by Greg Laswell. I must have been living under a rock because I'd never heard it before and it is amazing. I'll preface this by saying that I've been uber-sensitive in the past week or so but... I kinda, almost cried a little when I heard it....lame!

In addition to that super track, there is also a couple of songs from a group called 'Scala and Kolacny Brothers' who Wikipedia informs me are actually a Belgian girls' choir. Megan has included 2 of their tracks, one being a cover of Coldplay's 'Yellow' and the other a cover of Damien Rice's 'The Blower's Daughter'. I'm keen to check out their other tracks and suggest you do the same if you haven't heard them. I see that they have also done covers of The Cure's 'Friday I'm in Love', 'Suzanne' by Leonard Cohen and   Bowie's 'Life on Mars' all of which I'm very interested to hear.

Included in Megan's package was a lovely little note saying hi and the cutest pack of whale note! Thanks so much Megan!! I'm not sure if Megan has a blog but if you do and if you are reading this send me a link and I'll pop by to say howdy sometime.

Well there you have it, this swap has been so much fun and I can't wait to do another one sometime soon. No doubt I'll receive my second mix shortly and I'll surely be back to share it with y'all.

.:. Spring has sprung! .:.

So, yikes...It's the first day of Spring(here in the Southern Hemisphere that is)and I wanted to kick the season off with a fresh start and some bright colours. I hope you dig my new blog banner, I drew it myself using these great 'Lyra Aquarelle' pencils that I bought from Mag Nation recently. I'm no artist but these pencils are super sweet. Speaking of super sweet's Springtime!!! Here are just a few of the things I am looking forward to this Spring...

*click on the pretty pictures to go to the source*

Picnic under the Cherry Blossom
Cherry Blossom trees blooming around the streets.
This is probably illegal or at the very least anti-social, but I'm totalling planning a midnight raid on a couple of Über-blossomed streets to steal some branches and put them in vases around the house...
Picnics in the park on days when it's not raining and the sun comes out to play...
It's been a while
The smell of Jasmine wafting through open windows and following me as I walk home from the tram stop in the evening...
light shadow inspiration
Dappled sunlight in the afternoon...
Let the wild rumpus begin.
Balloons...just for fun and because September is my birthday month

What are your favourite things about Spring? Do tell!

.:. Mix/Share/Swap .:.

I recently participated in a music swap hosted by the lovely and creative Miss Bianca of 'Goodnight Little Spoon' fame. I had a bucket load of fun, despite some initial printer dramas which resulted in me almost losing my shit. After the printer issues were addressed (thanks Moof) and I had regained my composure, I proceeded to feverishly chop things up, stick things down and sew things together. Below are the fruits of my labour...

↑This mix is for Rhianne aka 'for the easily distracted'↑

↑This mix is for Patsy aka 'Being Blanche'↑

I hope both of the fancy ladies I was paired with like their mixes. I'm fairly confident about Patsy's as we have similar music taste but I'm not so sure about Rhianne's purely because I'm not sure what type of music she digs! So Rhianne, if you are reading this I hope you like your CD, if you don't please let me know and I'll send you another one! Truly!

Before I go, here a list of the materials I used in making and decorating my mix CD packages:

.:. Old cardboard box found at home
.:. Striped paper bag which came with Zines I purchased here
.:. Scrap cardboard bought from Rock Paper Scissors a while back
.:. Frankie Magazine
.:. Yen Magazine
.:. Jute twine purchased at Bunnings
.:. Washi tape from Felt Cafe on Etsy
.:. 'hello' sticker from K is for Calligraphy on Etsy
.:. Black Sharpies
.:. 'Love Mail' stickers from Kikki-K
.:. Ram wooden stamp from TYPO
.:. Derwent Studio pencils
.:. Sewing needle, glue and elbow grease from home

Well there you have it. Thanks to Bianca for hosting this totally boss swap. I hope everyone had a brilliant weekend, thanks for stopping by!

.:. Where for ART thou? .:.

It's been a while eh? Oh well, I plan to make up for it by posting a few things over the next couple of days. I thought I'd get the ball rolling by sharing with you some prints I found on Etsy.
I want/need them....

Do you like them? I do! I would love to have a whole wall in my house just filled ceiling to floor with prints and paintings and photographs. I think I'll get on to that when we move into a bigger house in November. Maybe one day I should post some pictures of prints and paintings that I already own...hmmm, ideas, ideas...

Anyway, thanks for stopping by! I will be back soon to post about something crafty I've been working on lately and more excitingly I'll also be posting about my first giveaway....Eeeep!

p.s I understand that I may loose some followers with that truly awful post title and yes the pun was intended, somebody slap me...

.:. Remember the 90's? .:.

...I do! I think I need to make a mix CD of all my favourite 90's songs, want one?

.:. Rondy .:.

.:. I'm no Master Chef but my scones "rock" .:.

I've finally succeeded at making a decent batch of scones. Up until a few weeks ago, every time I tried to make them they came out so flat and so hard you could use them as a Frisbee and have someones eye out. So, I typed "why are my scones like rocks" into Google and I learnt exactly what I was doing wrong. Here is my recipe, along with the tips I picked up from the interwebs:

2 Cups self-raising flour
1 Tbsp butter (softened)
2/4 cup milk
1/4 cup cream
1 tsp sugar

-Preheat oven to very hot (220˚c for conventional oven)-
-Sift flour, add sugar-
-Use fingers to rub in butter to achieve fine breadcrumb texture-
-Pour in milk and cream-
-Form mixture into soft dough being very gentle-
-Turn on to floured board and press out dough gently to 2cm thick-
-Use cutter or a glass to cut out scones-
-Place scones closely together on flat baking tray-
-Bake for 10-12 minutes-

-Don't use a rolling pin to roll out the dough-
-Don't knead the dough, just roughly form it-
-Use a bit of cream in your recipe-
-Place them on the tray side-by-side so they're touching-
-Bake them in a very hot oven for a short time-

Voila! There you have it, a recipe for scones that won't break a window if you throw them at one (just sayin'...). For the record, I ate like 6 scones with masses of jam and cream from the batch in the above photo. Yep, I'm greedy and kinda on the chunky side :)

.:. A home for Silverado .:.

A few months back I got my first laptop, it's a 13" MacBook Pro which I named 'Silverado' and it's all sorts of awesome. Prior to getting my own, Moof and I were sharing his trusty little white MacBook, 'Blanca', which we fought over constantly. Now that I have my own I want to find a case/cover for it so I can take it out and about with me. What do you think of these ones?...

I think they are all super cool and frankly I would like to buy them all! But that would just be silly, so I would be very grateful if you would be so kind as to help me choose one. What do you say?

.:. I'm ba-aaaack! .:.

Yikes, it's been over a month since I posted anything (hangs head in shame)and there are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, my Internet connection has been and continues to be very unreliable. Secondly, I have been trying to change the style of my blog; playing with templates and colours etc. I'm still mucking around with it so bear with me and please feel free to offer suggestions! Anyway, the third and final reason for my absence is that I got shy and found myself hiding away in the shadows of blogland...Yep, that's right folks, I got stage blog fright! But I'm back with a renewed sense of 'web confidence' and I'm looking forward to sharing the love with anyone who stumbles upon my little corner of these here interwebs. So without further ado, here is a few pics from my first ever weekend away in Daylesford which I shared with 3 awesome broads:

1. Wine, cheese and good company...salut!
2. Lunch by an open fire
3. Pimm's and Lemonade
4. Champagne, pyjamas and slippers following a deep tissue massage <3

5. Tarot reading: went in skeptical, came out perplexed....
 6. An awkward photo opportunity and a walk around the lake(note friend on the left wearing woollen booties as gloves)
7. Finding faces in the trees
8. A dodgy market stall selling 'Vintage Bottles' which on closer inspection turned out to be 'Dolmio bottles with coffee-dipped vintage label printouts'... I wonder how many people got stooged?

Do you have any favourite destinations for long weekends away? Do share! Thanks for stopping by and thank you to my lovely followers for sticking around :)

.:. A bit of fun and frivolity .:.

make gif

I've seen a few of these animated gif thingys around the interweb recently and I thought I'd give it a go myself. It was super easy and I think the result is pretty funny. I love that Miguel appears in one shot and in the next he vanishes, Houndini style..shazaam! I made this gif here.

The photos were taken by Moof, at my request. I am usually pretty camera shy because in recent years I have put on a lot of weight and I struggle with feeling negative about my body. On this particular day I put together an outfit that I thought looked pretty spunky so I thought I'd be brave and share it with all of you out in blog land!

Dress: Barkins
Cardigan: Barkins
Tights: Woolworths
Shoes: Barkins
Headband: Diva
Earrings: Portmans
Glasses: Missoni at Specsavers
Make-up:  MAC and Clinique

Thanks for stopping by :D

.:. Yarr, me booty! .:.

Another of my Etsy purchases recently arrived in the mail, behold....
Pretty packaging...
...tasty packaging?... lovely I hesitated to open it... glad I did though, look at these babies!! (from here)
Check out the free seals I got with my order :D

So there you have it, my awesome Etsy booty... oooh I must lay off my credit card for a while! Now that I've got all this lovely new stationary I guess I should get off my bum and do something with it. I'm just about to finish a letter to a lovely lass who contacted me to be her pen pal, but it is taking me longer than I anticipated to finish it off and send it. So I'd better sign off now and put my pen to paper. Hope everyone had a great hump day!
