.:. Impromptu Laksa Review .:.

On Thursday last week, my good friend T-dog and I stayed back at work a little later than usual(blergh!). As Moof wasn't going to be home for dinner that night I suggested to T-dog that we grab dinner before retreating to our respective habitats. So we did what all good iPhone-toting tossers do these days and jumped on the 'Urbanspoon' app to find a suitable eating hole. We chose Malaysian as the flavour of the night which saw us schlepping our way down Elizabeth Street to 'Big Coconut House'. It turned out to be well worth the schlepping, because the food was yummo.
I'd describe the place as a Malaysian style diner of sorts. It's a bustling, order and pay at the counter, sticky tabled, friendly kinda joint. Here are a couple of dodgy phone photos of the Vegetarian Laksa I had which was accompanied by an Iced Lychee drink.

You may have noticed the sneaky fishcake slices in my 'Vegetarian' Laksa...I couldn't help myself, I'm a sucker for those rubbery, ocean scented strips of goodness!

Anyway, I digress, the Laksa was pretty tasty. I loved the oily, caramelised eggplant and the fresh baby spinach which balanced out the coconutty richness . The Iced Lychee drink was A-M-A-ZING, slightly sweet and complete with yummy canned Lychees and fresh, crunchy ice. It was so refreshing.

I didn't take any photos of T-dog's meal, mainly because he ordered some pork monstrosity (he liked it). Actually there was so much meat on the menu, pretty much the only vegetarian option was the Laksa.  T-dog ordered this weird coconut and Jam Toast with butter. It looked really odd but he said it rocked his world.

The reason I wanted to share this random culinary adventure is because it really made my week. Usually on a work night I'll drag myself home, hop into my pyjamas and collapse on the couch until Moof nudges me awake and I shuffle wearily off to bed. Then of course I'm up again the next day to repeat the same, tired routine. So, I've decided that I'm going to try and get out more during the week just to break out of the Monday to Friday monotony. I'll try and post about my weekday adventures, that way I will have something to remind me to mix up my boring routines from time to time! How about you? Do you get out on 'school nights'? What fun adventures have you had during the week?

Thanks for stopping by!

.:. Andy and Mearl .:.

So, I've been watching stuff on Vimeo for around 3 hours now. My eyes are starting to water a little but I can't seem to stop. Yes, it seems that Vimeo may be my 'crack'. In summation Vimeo is awesome, but crack is whack!(as in really bad, just say no!) So without further ado I present you with a sweet little video I found about a guy called Andy and his friend Mearl the Squirrel. I personally think squirrels are super cute and I wish we had them here in Australia (despite the fact that they are considered a pest in a few countries...) Hope you enjoy it and oh oh, if you've seen something noteworthy on Vimeo let me know, I'd love to watch it!

.:. The Moof Cooks .:.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before but my lovely boyfriend 'Moof' is a chef by trade. I don't actually love cooking myself, I'm more of a baker, so I'm super lucky to have Moof around to slave over a hot stove pretty much every night. He always makes such delicious and simple meals so I thought I'd share a few with you. A warning to any lovely vegetarians and vegans out there: although we are not big meat eaters, and we are definitely friends of señor tofu, the pictures in this post include fish, red meat and poultry so look away now if you are likely to be offended!! Oh, and for those allergic, this post may contain traces of nuts...

.:. Megan's Mix .:.

I received a Mix CD from the first of my 2 partners in Bianca's Mix Share Swap. The lovely lass who sent me the mix pictured below is Megan from West Virginia, USA. I was super jazzed to find Megan's package waiting for me when I got home from work the other week, I may have squealed a little as I tore it open. Check it...

There are heaps of great tracks on the mix but my favourite by far is a cover of Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' by Greg Laswell. I must have been living under a rock because I'd never heard it before and it is amazing. I'll preface this by saying that I've been uber-sensitive in the past week or so but... I kinda, almost cried a little when I heard it....lame!

In addition to that super track, there is also a couple of songs from a group called 'Scala and Kolacny Brothers' who Wikipedia informs me are actually a Belgian girls' choir. Megan has included 2 of their tracks, one being a cover of Coldplay's 'Yellow' and the other a cover of Damien Rice's 'The Blower's Daughter'. I'm keen to check out their other tracks and suggest you do the same if you haven't heard them. I see that they have also done covers of The Cure's 'Friday I'm in Love', 'Suzanne' by Leonard Cohen and   Bowie's 'Life on Mars' all of which I'm very interested to hear.

Included in Megan's package was a lovely little note saying hi and the cutest pack of whale note! Thanks so much Megan!! I'm not sure if Megan has a blog but if you do and if you are reading this send me a link and I'll pop by to say howdy sometime.

Well there you have it, this swap has been so much fun and I can't wait to do another one sometime soon. No doubt I'll receive my second mix shortly and I'll surely be back to share it with y'all.

.:. Spring has sprung! .:.

So, yikes...It's the first day of Spring(here in the Southern Hemisphere that is)and I wanted to kick the season off with a fresh start and some bright colours. I hope you dig my new blog banner, I drew it myself using these great 'Lyra Aquarelle' pencils that I bought from Mag Nation recently. I'm no artist but these pencils are super sweet. Speaking of super sweet's Springtime!!! Here are just a few of the things I am looking forward to this Spring...

Picnic under the Cherry Blossom
Cherry Blossom trees blooming around the streets.
This is probably illegal or at the very least anti-social, but I'm totalling planning a midnight raid on a couple of Über-blossomed streets to steal some branches and put them in vases around the house...
Picnics in the park on days when it's not raining and the sun comes out to play...
It's been a while
The smell of Jasmine wafting through open windows and following me as I walk home from the tram stop in the evening...
light shadow inspiration
Dappled sunlight in the afternoon...
Let the wild rumpus begin.
Balloons...just for fun and because September is my birthday month

What are your favourite things about Spring? Do tell!
